M8 World Championship: Format, Dates and SEA Path

Category: Esports News

Quick answer: M8 runs from the Bangkok Wild Card on 17–20 December 2026 to Istanbul's Main Stage in January 2027. Three Wild Card teams advance; MCT SEA's top two qualify directly.

MOONTON Games has announced the M8 World Championship format and Istanbul venues, setting out the next steps in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang's international season. Its 22 October update connects a Bangkok Wild Card with a 16-team Main Stage in Türkiye and a US$1 million prize pool.

For Southeast Asian fans, the immediate story is the route through December's regional qualifiers. The official M8 ticket hub now also lists the tournament's stage dates, making it easier to separate qualification events from the world championship itself.

M8 dates and venues

The official M8 ticket hub lists these competition windows:

Stage	Dates	Location
Wild Card	17–20 December 2026	Bangkok, Thailand
Swiss Stage	3–10 January 2027	Istanbul, Türkiye
Knockout Stage	14–19 January 2027	ESA Espor Arena, Istanbul
Grand Final	23 January 2027	Ora Arena, Istanbul

These are stage dates, rather than a confirmed list of opponents. Match entries on the ticket hub still show TBD teams. Its displayed timezone can be changed; check that setting before converting individual match times for Singapore or another SEA market.

How the M8 format works

The Wild Card has two five-team groups playing best-of-one round robins. Each group winner advances. The second- and third-placed teams enter a cross-group, best-of-five elimination bracket for the remaining Main Stage place.

In Istanbul, the Swiss Stage requires three wins to advance; three defeats eliminate a team. Eight teams reach the double-elimination knockouts, which begin with best-of-three series, move to best-of-five matches, and end with a best-of-seven final.

See MOONTON's format announcement for the organizer's full breakdown.

SEA qualification comes before the Wild Card

MCT SEA is a separate regional event, with group play on 9–10 December and knockout playoffs on 11–13 December. Its top two teams qualify directly for the M8 Main Stage. Third and fourth move into the Bangkok Wild Card.

The regional competition brings together 12 teams across 11 Southeast Asian markets. Its open-league route includes the champions of MDL Philippines, MDL Indonesia and MAL Malaysia, giving development-league teams a path into the regional playoffs.

That distinction helps fans follow the calendar: an MCT SEA place is an opportunity to earn M8 qualification, while a Wild Card place still requires another successful tournament run. The MCT SEA announcement explains the regional pathway.

Confirmed Thailand representatives

MOONTON's 19 October recap confirms that Leon Esports selected the M8 Wild Card route after winning MSL Thailand Season 2. Bacon Time and TENACITY will represent Thailand at MCT SEA.

Leon earned that choice by defeating Bacon Time 4–3 in the domestic final. Bangkok will host both December competitions at ICONSIAM, according to the official Thailand season recap.

Ticket dates for fans planning to attend

Knockout early-bird sales run from 24 October to 21 November. Grand Final access has a separate Gen-M process: verification registration is scheduled for 7–12 November, followed by exclusive early-bird sales on 18–21 November.

Use the official ticket hub to reach the relevant ticket option and check eligibility, seat zones and current availability before making travel arrangements. A listed sale window does not guarantee that every ticket tier remains available.
